Fred Foy Strang holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Furman University, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry from Reformed Theological Seminary, a Master of Science by Research from the University of Edinburgh, and a Ph.D. from the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non Western World, University of Edinburgh. His publications include, Living with the Maasai, Maasai Oral Literature, and African Praise Music, and Maasai Life and Christian Worship and Practice at the End of the 20th Century: A Photographic Portfolio.
Ordained as Minister with the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1987, he has served with his wife, Cecily, and boys, Jesse and Jacob, as a missionary among the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania. Also, he has worked as a solo pastor in several rural settings and in four large church situations in the ministry areas of youth, contemporary worship, and leadership development. Fred Foy held a dual appointment as both full Professor of Missions and of Philosophy & Religion at King University, Bristol, Tennessee and also served as the Dean of the Peeke School of Christian Mission and University Chaplain. He continues to serve King University as adjunct professor and is adjunct professor for the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. Fred Foy and Cecily, adjunct faculty with the King School of Nursing, are currently on a missionary appointment to Kenya, East Africa with The Antioch Partners (TAP). The Antioch Partners is in mission partnership with Presbyterian Church (USA), the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), and the Evangelical Covenant Order of Presbyterians (ECO). Fred Foy is working with the Presbyterian Church of East Africa to facilitate national leader training and the development, assisting in faculty development at the Presbyterian University of East Africa and serving in outreach and community development among the underserved. Cecily, who holds a PhD in Nursing, is working with nursing leader and teacher development, in global health policy, community health, and global malaria concerns.
Fred Foy is a scuba diver, loves the beach and ocean, enjoys music, photography, working on their old log cabin, and barbecuing the best pork ribs you’ll ever eat. Cecily loves a good cup of tea, being with friends, enjoying the beach and the mountains, gardening, and hosting family events.
